    Project Overview

    Social Accountability for Gender Equality Project (SAGEP) is a 20-month long project, being implemented in 10 Local Government Units (LGUs) from seven districts of three provinces- Nagarain of Dhanusa; and Siraha & Nawarajpur of Siraha in Madhesh; Chaukune of Surkhet, Sanibheri of West Rukum, Dullu & Bhairabi of Dailekh in Karnali and Godabari & Chure of Kailali and Jorayal of Doti in Sudurpaschim. NEEDS Nepal is one of the local implementing partners of this project led by Pro Public with the financial support from UN Women.

    The purpose of the project is to enhance the capacity of women and excluded groups to influence decision-making, engage in evidence-based civic dialogue and action, and demand accountability and transparency for gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE). Utilizing a multi-faceted approach, including human rights-based, gender-transformative, and evidence-based, the project will empower organized groups of domestic actors, drawing strength from national legal frameworks rooted in international conventions, covenants, protocols, and treaties to which Nepal is a signatory.

     

    Project Objectives

    The objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of women and excluded groups to influence decision-making, engage in evidence-based civic dialogue and action, and demand accountability and transparency for gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE).

    Key Expected Outcomes

    • Increased capacity of 40 women and representatives from marginalized groups and civil society on transparency and social accountability tools, leading to improved access to public services.
    • Enhanced awareness among 240 individuals from marginalized and minority communities through community dialogues, enabling greater citizen engagement and accountability of local governments.
    • 150 service users actively engaged in the development of citizen report cards, contributing to improved quality and responsiveness of public service delivery.
    • 160 marginalized individuals trained on participatory planning and budgeting
