    Rural Health System Strengthening

    Project Overview:

    This project aimed to strengthen water quality management, upgrade WASH infrastructure in schools, and enhance emergency preparedness and response systems. With a focus on sustainability, inclusiveness, and resilience, the project addressed critical gaps in access to safe water and sanitation, especially for vulnerable populations, including children and disaster-prone communities. The initiative was aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and integrated climate-resilient and community-driven approaches.

    Project Objectives:

    • Increase Capacity to Improve Water Quality and Functionality
    • Upgrade WASH Facilities in Schools in Line with the Three-Star Approach
    • Strengthen the Emergency Preparedness and Response System

     

    Key Project Outcomes:

    • Improved Health Outcomes: Reduction in waterborne diseases through access to safe water and sanitation.

    • Education and Gender Equity: Enhanced learning environments in schools, especially for girls, through upgraded WASH facilities and menstrual hygiene support.

    • Resilient Communities: Increased community preparedness and reduced vulnerability to WASH-related emergencies and climate shocks.

    • Sustainable Water Management: Empowered local systems and communities with the knowledge, tools, and infrastructure to manage water resources effectively and sustainably.
